Vermont EV Charging Incentives for Multifamily Properties

  • Burlington Electric Department offering a rebate of $2,500 per port (up to 75% of the installed cost) for workplace Level 2 EV charging stations. Level 2 chargers installed in a Disadvantaged Community (DAC) according to the Justice 40 census map are eligible for a $3,250 rebate. For Multi-family properties they are offering a rebate of $1,200. For DC fast chargers they are offering a rebate of up to $15,000 per system (up to 75% of installed cost). DCFC must have 50kW/200 amps or higher output, be connected to a 480v, 3-phase line and be available to the public during typical non-business hours (e.g. nights, weekends).

  • Charge Vermont/ VT Community EV Chargers grant program, made possible by the Department of Housing and Community Development, is helping cover almost all the cost to install EV chargers for the employees of a business, residents of a multi-unit dwelling, or visitors to your public attraction. This program is specific to Level 1 and Level 2 chargers with a maximum incentive of $100,000 per applicant.

  • Stowe Electric is offering a rebate for Level 2 or Level 3 DC Fast Charging (DCFC) EV charging stations that are installed at a workplace, public building or parking lot, or commercial location and available for customers, visitors, and public users. Level 2 EV charging stations are eligible for a $250 rebate per charger for multifamily homes or $500 per charger for workplace or public chargers accessible to the public, employees, or visitors. Level 3 DCFC stations are eligible for a $1,000 rebate per charger (maximum of $2,000 per year per customer) if the stations are available to public users and connected to a network with an operation and maintenance portal and/or fee-based portal.

  • VEC offers a bill credit for the installation of Level II and Level III public charging stations. Eligible applicants are businesses and public entities (schools, municipalities, etc) provided the charging station is available to the public and was operational after July 1, 2017. The bill credit is $500 per connection ($500 for a 1-head charger, $1,000 for a 2-head charger).

Vermont Lighting Upgrade Incentives for Multifamily Properties

  • Efficiency Vermont has been offering rebates for commercial lighting upgrades, including outdoor lighting fixtures, to help businesses transition to energy-efficient LED lighting. However, as of May 5, 2025, Efficiency Vermont announced that it will be ending its commercial lighting rebate program after more than 20 years of providing incentives. The program has been instrumental in assisting local businesses in reducing energy use and costs by replacing fluorescent bulbs with LEDs. Efficiency Vermont encourages businesses to take advantage of the remaining time to apply for rebates before the program concludes

  • For new multifamily construction or major renovations, Efficiency Vermont offers customized technical and design support, along with cash incentives, to make properties more energy-efficient. This program provides financial incentives to help offset the costs of implementing energy-saving measures during the construction or renovation process

  • The Vermont Energy Saver website provides information on various programs and incentives available for energy-saving improvements in homes and businesses. These programs may include rebates, low-interest loans, and other financial incentives to help lower the costs of making energy-efficient upgrades

  • Efficiency Vermont offers rebates for the installation of energy-efficient equipment in residential rental properties. This program aims to encourage property owners to make energy-saving improvements, including lighting upgrades, to enhance the energy efficiency of rental units

  • For new construction or gut rehab multifamily properties in Vermont, Efficiency Vermont provides a comprehensive design checklist to ensure energy efficiency. By meeting all aspects of this checklist, financial incentives of $500 per unit and $500 for each qualifying common laundry washer/dryer pair may be available. This checklist is designed to facilitate communication between developers and Efficiency Vermont representatives during the design process

  • Efficiency Vermont, in partnership with Vermont’s Regional Development Corporations, has offered enhanced rebates to support Vermont businesses in upgrading to qualified LED lighting. Under this program, projects could receive up to 75% of equipment and installation costs covered, up to a maximum rebate of $10,000. Additionally, projects with 500 or more linear tube LEDs (TLEDs) could have 100% of equipment costs covered. Please note that this program is subject to availability and may be ending soon
