Iowa Lighting Upgrade Incentives for Multifamily Properties

  • Alliant Energy provides free energy assessments for low-income multifamily properties and institutional facilities. Eligible properties can receive rebates up to 40% of the total cost of energy efficiency modifications, including outdoor lighting upgrades. The program also offers zero labor costs, as experienced technicians will install new energy-saving products, such as LED bulbs, in common areas and tenant units. Additionally, property owners receive a detailed report of their building’s energy performance along with recommended improvement opportunities. To participate, properties must be within Alliant Energy’s Iowa service territory and receive primary heating or cooling energy service from Alliant Energy.

  • The Iowa Multifamily GREEN (Great Rewards Energy Efficiency Network) program assists owners of Iowa's aging affordable multifamily housing stock in making energy-efficient upgrades. Eligible properties may receive a free energy review and a comprehensive report with energy savings recommendations. If immediate energy savings potential is identified, properties may receive no-cost compact fluorescent bulbs, faucet aerators, and efficient showerheads. Participating utilities may cover up to 40% of the cost of other larger, eligible upgrades. The program aims to reduce utility and maintenance costs, improve tenant comfort, and enhance property value.

  • MidAmerican Energy offers the Instant Discounts program, providing immediate rebates for energy-efficient lighting upgrades, including exterior lighting fixtures and retrofit kits. Rebates range from $25 to $200 per unit, depending on the type of lighting equipment. To qualify, lighting upgrades must achieve a wattage reduction of at least 30% compared to existing equipment and operate a minimum of 1,000 annual hours. It's important to note that Instant Discounts cannot be combined with other rebate programs, such as Nonresidential Energy Solutions or Commercial New Construction. Alternatively, MidAmerican Energy offers the Nonresidential Energy Solutions program for custom lighting projects that don't fit into standard rebates. This program provides cash incentives based on energy savings and requires pre-approval before purchasing and installing equipment.
